Rocky Instincts Inspiring Indigenous Skills

Malachi and students building a shelter

Last week of term 1 students at Dingo State School took part in demonstrations by Wendy and Malachi from Rocky Instincts that teach students about primitive skills. Students helped build a shelter out of natural materials, were taught how to create fire with friction and were shown how to throw boomerangs and spears.

Wendy is Ghungalu and taught students about berries, bark and other plants such as the Native Grass Tree which they used for food and medicine. They also brought with them woven baskets made from leaves and furs from the Wallaby and Kangaroo. It was a fun hands on experience.
